Korea to Cape Town - The axil of evil by bike

In September of this year, Dan Martin, a 26 year old Englishman will embark on an epic challenge to cycle from Korea to Cape Town. During this year long journey Dan will bike over 20,000 miles alone and unsupported through some of the most dangerous territory on earth, including the so-called "Axis of Evil". Should he succeed he will become the first person ever to complete such a voyage.

Dan's adventure will begin on the 1st of September 2007 when he sets off from Seoul, South Korea. Almost immediately he will encounter his first challenge - North Korea. Dan will then cycle as much of the country as he is permitted before exiting into China. From there his route will take him through India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Middle East, across Northern Africa, and straight down the western coast of the continent as far as Cape Town. En route will be Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, DRC and Sierra Leone; to name but a few of the notoriously dangerous countries Dan will pedal through alone.

Cambodian-American captures Aids and Tears on Film
By Greg Mellen, staff writer, Long Beach Press Telegram

When Cambodian-American film maker Peter Chhun returned to his homeland, he immediately saw parallels in the tragedy of AIDS in Cambodia and the burgeoning epidemic in the Cambodian-American community at home, so he documented ordinary Cambodians' harrowing stories the best way he knew how; through the lens of a camera.

K-Bloggers meet up

K-Bloggers meet up
Gdog's announcing his last day in Korea has spurred me into suggesting something I've been considering for a while : The idea of a meetup for bloggers in Korea.

So here's my idea:

What : A casual get-together for drinks.
When : Sunday 22nd July 2007, Afternoon continuing until whenever.
Where : To Be Decided. I'm thinking of a Cafe / Bar / Restaurant type place in Itaewon , Seoul. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. [Unless everyone would like to come over to a bar in Yeouido?]
Who : Bloggers, Commenters, Lurkers, Friends, Family. All welcome.
Why : Get to meet the faces behind the names, and as a "Good Bye Korea" party for Gdog and Me.

So, Leave a comment or drop me an email if you are interested so I can estimate numbers and see if we need to book a place.

Seoul Man

Café Nicolia

By Johnny Red AKA John Redmond

Mediterranean style café with an emphasis on conversation.

Physically, culturally and climatically, Seoul is about as far away from the Mediterranean as you're likely to get. In fact until Guus Hiddink coached the national football team in 2002, just about anything remotely European (with the exception of pizza) was almost unheard of. Admittedly there were a selection of European style restaurants located in Gangnam and Itaewon where one could experience authentic French, Spanish or Italian cuisine. Fortunately times have changed.
